Find Your Inner Mentor on Retreat

Do you know that voice in your head which is the voice of inner wisdom? You might have another name for her, your inner mentor, your best self, your guides, your future self.

I think you know her quite well.

She’s calm, secure, stable and productive. She moves you forward safely knowing that at each step you have choice. She keeps you safe when difficulties arise, and knows deep down that you are ok exactly as you are.

I call my inner mentor ‘Magnetic Leila’. I know her fairly well but she is constant battle with my inner critic, who also gets to control things some of the time.

During our time on retreat, you will be invited to become better acquainted with your critic and your inner mentor, so you can calm the critic and hear your mentor more clearly.

Heres the thing, your critic is trying to keep you safe, she comes from a place of fear, a familiar place of, ‘Don’t stick your neck out, get down, stay back here where its safe.’ She’s been around for a long time and she has lots of history on her side to let you know hw badly things worked out in the past when you tried something new.

She wants what she thinks is the best for you, familiarity, safety and security. And she is scared, like the small child that she is. She needs love and kindness and the support of your amazing inner mentor.

You see, nothing magic happens in your comfort zone, magic happens in your growth zone, which is the realm of your inner mentor.

Your inner mentor is the person you could be if you stepped out of your own way. She has all your best qualities and knows exactly what she is capable of with the deepest humility.

Imagine living your life from this place!

This is how you shine your light so brightly that you start to make a difference in the world, be seen and heard and influence others for their own good.

My critic would have me shrinking back into, ‘Ah well, I’ve had a good innings with medicine, I’m 57 now, maybe its time to just hang up my shingle and stop work, after all, I’ve got nothing to offer, I don’t know anything. Other people can say it all so much better than me.’

But my inner mentor burns with a passion. I feel her deep in my gut.

She is excited and energised by the challenge of articulating these messages to the world, she enjoys the thrill of engagement with others and is deeply moved by the journey her clients make from challenges to growth.

She loves the journey of growth, and she embraces it powerfully. She has so much more to offer and so many people to engage with!

And what does this have to do with being on retreat?

A LOT!

In fact I think I have never been closer to my inner mentor than when I have been on retreat.

I have been on Buddhist retreats, Yoga retreats, Silent retreats and Solitary retreats. So many I actually could not begin to count them all.

And I have had the deepest, life changing experiences through seeking the inner stillness that comes with retreat.

This combined with the support of the beautiful facilitators who have led me into new and amazing worlds, and to whom I am forever grateful.

My life would not have played out in the rich and exciting way that it has if not for these incredible opportunities that I gifted myself with, for stillness, support, learning and reflection.

On retreat with me you will:

  1. Build self awareness
  2. Increase choice in life
  3. Improve self confidence
  4. Create warmer relationships
  5. Get back on track with what is fulfilling in life
  6. Identify goals
  7. Build momentum towards living in your full potential
  8. Build capacity for fulfilling intimacy
  9. Create change
